Enhancing the lives of young people, helping them strive to reach their potential through squash, education and inspiring workshops.
Steel City Squash is a squash/ education programme launched in June 2021 with a 6 week pilot project, followed by a weekly rolling programme offering educational support and participation in squash. The programme will run at Goodwin Sports Centre in Sheffield, drawing children from Upperthorpe and the surrounding area.
The programme itself will combine Educational Support for half of the session and Squash Coaching for the other half providing a varied and stimulating weekly offer to support the development of children in the programme. Each week the participants will be provided with a grab bag meal when they finish their session.
Education students from Sheffield Hallam University, mentored by our Education Advisor, will provide engaging education sessions themed around "Fun and Teamwork" to help support increased academic attainment and recap lost learning from missed schooling due to Covid-19. There will also be Inspiring Activity Workshops delivered by external organisations to further support the development of participants. Participation in squash will provide the opportunity for regular physical activity and skill development with a pathway for further participation as appropriate.
